Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Toml Formatter formatting answered

Yes, our TOML formatter is completely free with no registration required. All processing happens in your browser.

Yes, the formatter fully supports all TOML v1.0 features including inline tables, arrays of tables, dotted keys, and multiline strings.

Absolutely. The formatter handles Cargo.toml (Rust), pyproject.toml (Python), and any other TOML configuration files used in modern development workflows.

Yes, the formatter preserves your comments while normalizing whitespace, aligning key-value pairs, and adding proper section spacing.

You can control section spacing, key-value alignment, quote style for string values, blank line insertion between sections, and indentation for nested tables.

TOML (Tom's Obvious, Minimal Language) is the config format of Cargo (Rust), Poetry (Python), and static site generators - designed for unambiguous parsing where INI is underspecified and YAML is surprising. The current spec is version 1.0, published at toml.io.

Top-level key-value pairs come first, then [table] headers each on their own line with their keys indented below, and [[array-of-tables]] entries kept in document order. Dotted keys (server.tcp.port) stay dotted rather than being expanded - both forms are equivalent per spec, and the original form is preserved.

All of them: integers (including hex 0x, octal 0o, binary 0b), floats, booleans, offset date-times, local dates, times, strings (basic, multi-line, literal), arrays, and inline tables. Values are never re-encoded - a literal string with backslashes stays single-quoted instead of being re-escaped.
