Common questions about Color Formatter formatting answered

Yes, our color formatter is completely free with no registration required. All processing happens in your browser.

We support HEX (#FF6600), RGB (rgb(255,102,0)), HSL (hsl(24,100%,50%)), and HSV conversions with alpha channel support.

Yes. Click the color swatch to open the native color picker and select any color visually. All formats update instantly.

Yes. You can include alpha values in RGBA and HSLA formats, with values from 0 (transparent) to 1 (opaque).

Simply paste the HEX value (#FF6600) into the input field. The tool instantly shows the RGB, HSL, and HSV equivalents.

HEX (#rrggbb, #rgb, #rrggbbaa), RGB/A (0-255 and percentage forms), HSL/A (per CSS Color 4), plus a few legacy notations (rgb() comma syntax) and named CSS colors (the 148 names in the CSS spec). Conversion is exact where the target can represent the color; HEX↔RGB is lossless, while HSL rounds to the nearest integer components on render.

HSL is intuitive but distorts perceptual lightness (yellow at L=50% looks far brighter than blue at L=50%). HWB (hue-white-black, CSS Color 4) simplifies tint/shade mixing. OKLCH (CSS Color 4, from the OKLab color space) is perceptually uniform - the format modern design systems adopt because equal L channel steps look equally bright; the converter outputs all three.

Alpha converts across all notations (#rrggbbaa, rgba(), hsla(), oklch(... / 0.5)). Display-P3 and other wide-gamut colors map to their closest sRGB equivalent with a gamut-clipping notice - sRGB cannot represent them, and the tool says so rather than pretending the round-trip was lossless.
